Strategic Partnership Between Exide and Rural King Pays Off
There’s nothing better than a customer publicly acknowledging the value we provide. That’s just what happened recently at the Rural King annual awards ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Mattoon, Illinois. Rural King presented Exide with two very prestigious awards:
1. Speer Award: for demonstrating the best alignment with Rural King values every day
2. Best Auto Vendor: for demonstrating dedicated and ongoing collaboration with and service to Rural King and customers
The Speer Award is particularly special because it is the award named after Rural King’s founder, Kermit Speer.
“Exide’s sales duo of Tom Best and Mark Wahman has worked above and beyond to service Rural King and build a strategic partnership resulting in significant business growth for Exide and Rural King,” said Gary Midkiff, Exide’s Senior Director of National Accounts. “The award is well deserved. Great job Tom and Mark.”
In the past year Rural King has increased its retail battery sales significantly with Exide keeping pace in shipments. And those numbers did not just happen. A lot of strategizing and internal changes were made to enable the growth.
“Internally we strategized on how to best serve this customer and enable them to achieve their sales goals,” explained Tom Best, Strategic Account Manager. “We brought together forecasting teams, customer support and operations people to develop a strategic plan.”
Understanding the customer and their needs was the driving force during the strategy sessions.
“We had to look at everything we were doing from the customer perspective,” said Mark Wahman, Key Accounts Manager. “Strengthening our partnership with Rural King through extensive conversations and discovery sessions was critical. We know that our customers have choices; we can’t take anything for granted.”
Rural King is a long-time Exide customer. In fact, we are the exclusive provider of batteries to Rural King’s 115 retail stores in the United States.
