Exide Technologies Introduces Evolution Battery Selection Programme For Light Vehicles In Europe
Alpharetta, Georgia - (September 16, 2008) - Exide Technologies (NASDAQ: XIDE, www.exide.com), a global leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, is unveiling the Exide Evolution Programme at the 2008 Automechanika show in Frankfurt, Germany. The programme, offered by the Company’s Transportation Europe organization, is an innovative battery selection tool covering the specialized driving needs of the complete range of light vehicles. With today’s advanced cars and advanced batteries, it’s no longer possible to select a replacement battery based simply on the size and type of vehicle. Many other factors influence battery selection. For example, identical vehicles can have different engines with varying power levels and a range of different electrical accessories. Vehicles also operate in vastly different conditions, from intensive urban stop-and-go driving to long journeys in rural areas. And, regardless of driving conditions, extreme heat or cold also are factors for consideration. “All of these variables can affect the energy requirements of the battery, which is why Exide Technologies developed the Exide Evolution Programme, a comprehensive tool to help motorists identify the best Exide automotive battery for their specific vehicle needs,” said Joseph L’Hostis, Vice President of Aftermarket Sales and Marketing for Exide Technologies. The Exide Evolution Programme covers Exide’s complete product offering for light vehicles, segmented into two product ranges: Excell and Premium. The Exide Evolution Programme also includes a set of tools to help motorists select the most closely-matched battery based on the four main categories of needs for the vehicle: engine size and type, equipment load, driving conditions and external temperatures. The high performance range carries the Exide® Premium brand. This line of products delivers a combination of high energy, high capacity and high starting power. It is engineered to stand up to demanding vehicles – such as high-powered diesel and gas engines and cars heavily loaded with electrical accessories – and demanding driving and external conditions such as high heat and extreme cold, or intensive stop-and-go driving. The Exide® Excell range, which is equipped to handle more than 97 percent of the vehicles on the road in Europe, carries the high level of quality associated with the Exide brand. This battery is designed for the majority of today’s vehicles with standard equipment that are used for everyday driving.
The Exide Technologies team will exhibit this new programme as well as a full complement of advanced battery and battery support technology products at Automechanika, Hall 3.0, Stand D21, one of the world’s leading automotive trade shows, from 16 to 21 September. The theme of the 2008 Frankfurt show is global warming and its impact on the automotive aftermarket. “The Exide Evolution Programme fits into 2008 Automechanika theme because it helps motorists choose the right battery for their vehicles, helping them get the best performance and longest life,” said Mr. L’Hostis.
