Alpharetta, Georgia - (February 12, 2007)
- Exide Technologies (NASDAQ: XIDE, www.exide.com), a global
leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, introduces the
Relay Gel®, the Company’s newest line of stationary batteries
for network power applications, sold by Exide’s GNB Industrial
Power Business. Relay Gel®, engineered by GNB for high
temperature applications in broadband, CATV, solar and other
demanding outside plant environments, was inspired by the Exide®
Sonnenschein®, a battery line incorporating one of the most
successful gel technologies on the market today. The
Sonnenschein® gel technology provides greater heat dissipation
capabilities compared to AGM technology to prolong battery life
in high temperature applications.
“During the past decade, the Exide Sonnenschein® product line
has earned an international reputation for high performance in
some of the most demanding network power applications,” said
Keith Schmid, Vice President - General Manager of the Exide
Technologies Industrial Energy division in North America. “The
incorporation of Sonnenschein® gel technology into the design of
our new Relay Gel® product demonstrates Exide’s capabilities and
credentials for servicing the cable and broadband industry.”
The valve-regulated Relay Gel® is available in capacities
ranging from 27 to 91 amp-hours (at the 8 hour rate to 1.75VPC
and 25 degrees C) and is produced in five BCI sizes including
U1, 22NF, 24, 27 and 30H/31. The battery line also is available
in four terminal types: threaded (M6) copper alloy, flag, marine
and SAE.
A number of other key features complete the Relay Gel®
battery’s advanced design. Thick, high-tin, low-calcium silver
positive plates resist corrosion; a reinforced polypropylene
case and cover reduce battery wall deflection; and a
second-generation helium leak detection system help ensure the
integrity of post and jar-to-cover seals. All of these features
help increase product life in the field under normal operating
conditions. With its gelled electrolyte, the battery also is
approved as non-spillable per regulations set forth by DOT, IMDG,
IATA, and ICAO.
The Relay Gel® product line is manufactured at GNB’s
Columbus, Georgia facility, the same location that produces both
Marathon® and Sprinter® industrial grade battery lines. This
family of GNB network power products is designed to provide some
of the most reliable battery backup solutions for virtually
every industrial monobloc battery application.
