Exide Technologies Recognized by John Deere in Achieving Excellence Program

Alpharetta, Georgia - (December 12, 2006) - Exide Technologies (NASDAQ: XIDE, www.exide.com), a global leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, has earned recognition as a Partner-level supplier for 2006 in the John Deere Achieving Excellence Program. The Partner-level status is Deere & Company’s highest supplier rating.

As a supplier of lead-acid starting batteries for John Deere heavy-duty equipment, Exide was selected for the honor in recognition of its dedication to providing products and service of outstanding quality as well as its commitment to continuous improvement. Company employees will accept the recognition during formal ceremonies held in February in Davenport, Iowa.

Suppliers who participate in the Achieving Excellence program are evaluated annually in several key performance categories, including quality, cost management, delivery, technical support and wavelength, which is a measure of responsiveness. John Deere Supply Management created the program in 1991 to provide a supplier evaluation and feedback process that promotes continuous improvement.

“Positive recognition by such an important customer for outstanding performance acknowledges that we are consistently meeting the exacting quality standards that John Deere and its own customers expect,” said E.J. O’Leary, President of the Transportation-Americas business division for Exide Technologies.
