Exide Premium Batteries Boast Technology
Enhancement

Alpharetta, Georgia - (September 11, 2006)
- Exide Technologies (NASDAQ: XIDE, www.exide.com), a global
leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, announces an
enhancement to its premium, maintenance-free lines of endurance
and higher starting power batteries.
Both lines now share an innovative, heat-sealed, double lid
designed to further improve safety. The lid, sealed and secure,
prevents tampering and controls spillage. Both battery lines
boast a central venting system that safely manages the escape of
any gases. In addition, a robust, internal labyrinth controls
acid spills and a state-of-charge indicator monitors the
battery’s level of charge.
Exide’s new endurance battery, marketed in Europe under the
brand names including the Exide X-treme2, Tudor Tech-Tronic2,
Fulmen Prestige2 and Deta Senator2, is designed for vehicles
outfitted with an array of electrical accessories such as GPS
navigation, air conditioning, heated seats or onboard
entertainment systems.
Based on the results of tests performed in accordance with the
European Norm 50342 endurance standard, the Exide endurance
battery line lasts twice as long as a battery that simply meets
the standard.
The endurance battery offers better performance due, in part, to
thick positive plates and a non-woven mat that keeps the active
paste material firmly bonded to the grid. An envelope separator
also fully encloses each positive plate to help reduce the risk
of a short-circuit.
Exide’s higher starting power battery, available in Europe as
Exide Xtra+, Tudor Tech-Start+, Fulmen Intense+ and Centra
Futura+, delivers long-life and excellent cold cranking
capabilities, making it ideal for cold weather and
stop-and-start driving demands.
Recent industry tests show that the higher starting power
battery can provide up to thousands more engine starts than a
standard battery, thanks to its advanced EXMET plate production
technology. The combination of expanded metal grids with
corrosion-resistant alloys produces a battery that can
accommodate more plates within each cell — boosting performance
and reliability.
